Detection & response
Threat analysis, reviewing security events, incident response principles and SIEM-based monitoring exercises.
SECOND-YEAR STUDENT · LONDON, UK
Building a career in
cyber security.
I study Cyber Security at Teesside University London. My focus is understanding threats, working carefully with evidence and helping organisations respond to incidents.
01 / PROFILE
I am an emerging cyber security professional developing a foundation in security monitoring, vulnerability assessment and digital forensics.
My degree and Cyblu training have introduced me to different security roles through simulated activities. I am particularly interested in how analysts recognise suspicious activity, assess its significance and document the next steps.
Work in data logging, legal administration and retail has taught me to keep records accurate, handle information responsibly and communicate with different people. I want to bring those habits into a security operations team.
02 / KNOWLEDGE & TOOLS
Developing through study and training.
Tool familiarity is at entry level.
Threat analysis, reviewing security events, incident response principles and SIEM-based monitoring exercises.
Vulnerability assessment, ethical hacking principles, network security and handling digital evidence.
Accurate logging, structured reporting, confidentiality and explaining information clearly to others.
03 / PRACTICAL WORK
Training activities from my portfolio.
These are simulated roles and exercises.
Activity. Investigated simulated cyber incidents using forensic imaging, data recovery and chain-of-custody procedures.
Output. A structured forensic report supporting a hypothetical legal scenario.
Career relevance. Careful evidence handling and clear records support incident investigations and handovers.
Activity. Reviewed network traffic and security events for anomalies in SIEM-based training exercises, alongside information security policies and response procedures.
Career relevance. This connects most closely with my interest in a junior SOC role: recognising relevant events and communicating a clear assessment.
Activity. Assessed mock organisations, identified security weaknesses and explored their potential effects through ethical hacking exercises.
Output. Risk assessments and recommendations for improving application and network security.
Career relevance. Understanding how weaknesses combine helps a defender decide what to investigate and prioritise.
Activity. Worked on an organisational security strategy, security awareness training and policies aligned with ISO 27001 principles in a training setting.
Career relevance. Technical controls need clear responsibilities and practical guidance for the people using them.
These training activities are described in my portfolio. Detailed lab artefacts and measured outcomes are not included here.
04 / EXPERIENCE

06 / WHAT COMES NEXT
I am interested in junior SOC analyst roles, placements and part-time opportunities that develop my skills in threat detection and incident response.
